Our School

Our school is nestled at the heart of Porirua City, we have new entrants to year 6 students. Our school focuses on whakawhanaungatanga, the building of strong, meaningful relationships both with our students and between students. Our school values akonga, kaitiaki and problem solvers underpin the culture of our school. Students are active learners who work with their teachers to reach their full potential. We take pride in being an open and inclusive school, focusing on the well-being and diverse learning needs of our students. We value connecting with our community and whānau and enjoy the many whānau days that we have.

History 

Porirua School is the oldest school in Porirua. In 1863, public money was advanced to Porirua School, which was originally sited by the Barracks in Paremata. Before moving to its present site in Elsdon in 1958, it was located where the Porirua Town Centre currently stands.  

Our Sensory Room 

Our sensory room provides students with a quieter, calmer  environment to focus on work.

Junior outdoor classroom 

The outdoor classroom space includes raised decking areas, gardens, a sandpit and a mud kitchen for tamariki to enjoy. 

Our Kitchen

We value teaching hands-on skills at Porirua School, such as cooking! Our kitchen space is excellent for students to bake and cook yummy kai.
