FROM MS TIATIA
Kia ora, talofa, ni hao, malo, fakalofa lahi atu, kia orana, hello.
Welcome Kyaria, Alana, Sharna and your whanau to our school, it’s great to have you with us.
Christchurch Fundraising
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our fundraising efforts for Christchurch last week.
- Sausage sizzle—$270
- Red and Black Funky Friday Coins—$274.60
- Photo shoot from the previous week—$200
This will be sent to the New Zealand Principals Federation, who will distribute the money to the schools most in need.
We welcome Sharna and Alana and their whanau from Christchurch. The girls have come to us from Aranui School, which is still closed due to damage from the earthquake. We have decided to adopt Aranui School to correspond with and to send messages to.
Goal Setting
Thank you to all who came down to help set goals for your children. It was great to see you there. If you were unable to come down for goal setting and meet the teacher, we have set goals for your child. These will be sent to you, please go over them with your child so that you know what they will be working on in class. Put them up on your fridge as an easy reference point, so that you can ask your child how they are going with achieving their goal both at school and at home.
Education Review Office
We had a very successful visit last week. The official report will be out within the next few weeks and we will be sharing the relevant points with you in the upcoming newsletters, so keep an eye out. Well done to our hardworking staff, their work was recognised and you should all be proud of the high quality of staff we have at Porirua School.
Emergency Contacts
Update of emergency details. Please give us up to eight names. If we have an emergency we will only release children to people on the list. It will be a highly stressful situation so your cooperation now, will ensure that in the event of an emergency or natural disaster, we can account for all students. It will be a highly emotional and stressful time, so following our process will help to keep our children calm and it would help if adults collecting children understand and remain calm also, so update your contacts now—up to eight people and ensure the people on your list know as well.
Board Information Evening - Communication
We hope to see you this Wednesday at 6pm, for the first of our Board run evenings. Come along for dessert and a discussion on ways to communicate with our board and school.
The first part of the evening will be information giving and the second part will be discussion and question time.
Congratulations!!

Quote of the Week
Often people attempt to live their lives backwards; they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want, so they will be happier. The way it actually works is the reverse. You must first be who you really are, then do what you need to do, in order to have what you want. ~Margaret Young
